Spellbound is Patrick’s 7th solo exhibition and is taking place until April 30th 2019 at the Brady Arts Centre in Whitechapel. Inspired by his lifelong interest in otherworldly mysteries, Patrick will be presenting a collection of his latest paintings: visual spells, chants and rituals, combined with sigils and portraits of significant figures. With them, Patrick hopes to invoke the same kind of curiosity, wonder and awe he felt toward the craft since he was little. In his own words:
“I had probably only just learned to read when I started leafing through my late father’s books on metaphysics and the occult. He had crystals, a Ouija board and candles he kept wrapped up and locked away. But most mysterious was his collection of old grimoires. When I was 15, he gave me one of them, and since then I’ve been enthralled by magic.”
The theme of the exhibition is not incidental, as Patrick has long had a fondness for Whitechapel and the East End as well, a neighbourhood with fascinating mysteries in its own right, and the place where he grew up.
